One Week Down...

A habit for a lifetime. We've been drinking the green smoothies for a week now, and I can totally tell there's been an improvement.

This is the first time in I don't know, EVER, that the kids have gotten me up before 8 am and I'm not dragging. NOT dragging. I have energy!

Did I mention that I have energy? It's so nice to just feel good, and not blah all day. I've written, that on top of the smoothies, we're trying to eat more whole foods in general. I've seen a vast improvement in theBeast. It's nice to see her tummy not hurt before she goes potty. Of course I let her have 2 donut holes at church today and she got the runs again. I'm going to really have to crack down, be "mean Mama" and say no to all processed foods for her. It's improved my own body's "elimination situation" for the better too...all I'm going to say about that! ha.

We don't only stick to one smoothie a day either. In the evening for a healthy snack we've been making fruit smoothies. Sometimes just one fruit and ice..viola! Great treat, that the kids love. I feel so good knowing that I'm getting all these wonderful greens into my families bodies! The only one still wrinkling her prissy nose to them is SlowMo. Thankfully the girl loves salad, so she's been eating spinach leaves with ranch dressing (a home made mixture, so good!) with her dinner.

If you are at all interested in trying them, but are afraid of the green color (but seriously people, GROW UP! lol) start out by using celery and fruit, it won't be quite as green. I recommend spinach leaves, although it'll be VERY green (it's so pretty!), it has a mild flavor that you won't even notice.

The smoothie I'm drinking in the photo has:
spinach leaves
red grapes
1 banana
water

YUM!

Go girl. It's been totally life changing for us too. I looove the taste and color, and this coming from a life long picky eater. I think just doing fruit is a great way to introduce these to picky kids, so I'm going to try that with my oldest. Great job lady!

Hi! Found you through the comment on the yahoo group. :) My oldest (almost 6) won't drink the green smoothies, but asks for a "pink" one every day, so we've been having two smoothies a day as well - mostly as an afternoon snack or for dessert after dinner. I am also waking up before my kids for the first time in ... well, a long time!

Hey! Found your blog through Sara's "green smoothie" yahoo group. I made my first one this morning, just for fun. As I was making it I was thinking "I can't believe I'm doing this it looks SO gross!" But it was so good I let my girlies try it and so I had to make another one for myself, they liked it that much. I made spinach/orange/banana today and I can't wait to try somethingelse tomorrow. Only then I'll plan on making enough for all of us.
I am totally with you in being ready to cut out all highly processed foods but I know my MIL is going to freak. I hate to be mama kill-joy the freak but I think it's time. Besides if enough of us are doing this with our kids now maybe it won't seem so weird when our kids are raising families of their own.

Great blog, I tried your link from the GreenSmoothie list. I agree with you that green smoothies rock! They may not look so great, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover anyway, right;)
I want to commend you for all you efforts at breastfeeding. I know first hand how frustrating the pumping this is, I have twin daughters that were born at 29 weeks and I pumped for them for six months, it was hard. I'm so glad it worked out for you with your latest little one. "Save guilt for sin"--you are a FABULOUS mamma!

Maybe if I put it in a colored glass and used a colored straw I wouldn't see the nasty green...

Would it have the same effect if you ate all those things seperately? :)

I have been SO BAD at making them. I just forget... I really need to make it a routine and get back on track. We used to make these a while ago but somehow quit. What are some of your fav. mixes??

Yay girl! Keep it up. I agree that this will be a lifelong change for us. I absolutely look forward to every morning now so I can make smoothies! And non-green smoothies are beginning to look quite odd to me :)Green is IT.

The energy in the morning is the most amazing thing for me too. Even if Bella wakes up in the night, I am WIDE awake to help her...and then I just go right back to sleep. Love it.

You look great mama!

Just a question for interest sake :) How do you manage to sleep till 8 am? My kids never sleep that late and we can't since they need to get to school and stuffs. Just asking for interest sake

I love green smoothies! We also do a lot of fruit ones with yogurt and juice. We have been trying to do mostly whole foods for about 4 months now and I totally feel a difference in myself and my 3 year old. Green rocks!

I'm going to have to try making these. My wife seems to always feel tired and "blah," as you elegantly put it, lol. She always has a few issues with the exit strategy from processed foods it seems. We really need to go organic.
